I liken a large centralized government to an umbrella covering the entire country, coast to caost, and then some. That's great if it happens to be flooding where you are, but what if you need some sun, or relief from a drought? It's just silly, 300 million people don't all need the same thing, and what's appropriate for one isn't neccessarily appropriate for others.
