The Riot-Folk! Collective is "an anti-profit mutual aid collective of radical artists and musicians" whose artists play a wide variety of folk music (and a little disco, too) generally meant to inspire, provoke, and educate. I won't go into details because you can get them on their official site or at wikipedia:Riot-Folk! Collective, but I've been really enjoying their music lately, and the whole concept of the collective and what they do is really great.

Music

You can download all their music from riotfolk.org, or search archive.org. I encourage you to check out all the artists, but if you're looking for something specific: Tom Frampton is screamy and raw, and uses this weird cartoony voice, but it grows on you (at least on me). Be sure to check out his song "Johnny" (or "Sally", if you prefer riot-disco to riot-folk). Harvey has a great collection of historic balads recounting various strikes and other important events. Also has some good spoken word poetry. Greer has a very contemporary sound. Though not neccessarily representative of the rest of his work, "Punks with Clean Kitchens", and "I want Something" are must hears. Miller and Boverman are a very folky folk couple, much more mellow than most of the others, but oh so poignant. Anna/Adhamh Roland has a sort of folk-rocky bluesy sound. Brenna has a nice brooding soulful sound, and is, in my opinion, much more subtle in her content. Then again, I'm kind of simple. Sadly, I haven't actually heard Gunnerman or Shannon Murray yet, they didn't show up on archive, and I haven't gotten around to downloading from their site yet.
