WorldWideWiki:About

From the World Wide Wiki

Aww...your damn laws! The good people don't need em, and the bad people don't follow em, so what good are they?

So you may be wondering what exactly you've stumbled upon here at World Wide Wiki. Well, first things first, it's certainly not world-wide, but not a bad name, ay? This is actually just a personal website I run for myself. If you're familiar with the ever growing presence of various MediaWiki instances all over the web, then this probably looks pretty familar. (If not, I strongly recomend you become familiar, starting with the ever more ubiquitous wikipedia.org). But this site is unrelated to the Wikimedia Foundation, I'm just using their software (freely available here) to host my own wiki on my home webserver.

So what's all this "wiki" stuff?

Wiki's a pretty sweet little "technology" thats actually been around for like a decade or so, but has recently become quite popular. You can read all about it in the wiki article.

Ok, so if this is a wiki, why can't I edit it?

Sorry, it's not that kind of wiki. I'm basically just using a wiki because it's so easy, not so it can be openly edited. Right now I'm the only one with edit rights (and most other rights) on this wiki, and I don't see this changing anytime soon. However, I have hacked the software to allow anyone to edit the discussion pages so that you can leave comments on any of the articles here. You can read more about this at Project:Using talk pages.

Fine, so what is this wiki for?

It's really just a personal website for me. The primary purpose is for me to post "how-to" articles about various hobbies and projects I find myself wrapped up in; partially to document my own work and progress, and partially so others with similar hobbies can hopefully find some useful information. But basically, everything's fair game, and you're libel to find all kinds of other stuff here from political rants to physics essays.

So where do I go from here?

Well, you can start on the Main Page. That's where you can find what's probably about the closest I'll ever get to having a blog, which is just recent events and "breaking news" regarding primarily this site. You can also find in the top right corner of that page a list of common top-level categories you can browse through to find relevant articles.

Alternatively, use the links on the left side of the page under "navigation" to jump to common places, random pages, or browse all the articles.
